- The Discretionary Learner Support Fund provides money if you are aged 19 or over and studying for qualifications.
- The Bursary Fund provides support for learning and related costs, including: childcare, travel and resources.
- If you have a disability we offer a range of support.
- Maths and English support may be available for certain subjects.
- If English is not your first language, support may be available.
Advanced Learning Loans
Everyone aged 19 or over can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for some or all of their course fees.
The smallest amount available to borrow is £300.
Advanced Learning Loans are paid directly to the organisation you are studying with (in this case, Medway Adult Education) once you have attended the course for two weeks.
To apply for an Advanced Learning Loan:
- Contact Medway on 01634 338 400 or enquiries@medway.gov.uk
- Ask them to check that Advanced Learning Loans are available for your course and to send you a Learning and Funding Information Letter with the course details.
- You will need this letter, your National Insurance (NI) number and passport details (or other ID) to apply for your loan.
- Once you have received the letter, apply for your loan by visiting https://secure.studentfinance.direct.gov.uk/protocol/index.do.
- You’ll be sent a letter confirming your loan - usually within 2 weeks.
Remember, your loan will be paid directly to Medway Adult Education.
If your course has already started you can still apply, but you must apply before it finishes.
Once the course is finished and you are earning more than £21,000 a year you will start to pay back your loan (plus interest). Repayments are 9% of any income over £21,000 per month. If your income drops below this amount, repayments stop.
