Support and training

As a foster carer with Medway, you’ll get 24 hour support and training courses to help you develop skills to support children with challenging behaviour.

As a foster carer with Medway, you’ll get 24 hour support, this includes:

  • Ongoing formal and online training
  • A social worker who will visit you every four to six weeks or more if needed
  • A youth service co-coordinator to grow interest in leisure, sport and arts
  • Support groups for you to share your experiences with other foster carers.

All foster carers are expected to attend training which will help you develop skills to support children with challenging behaviour.

Mandatory training:

  • Paediatric first aid
  • Recording skills
  • Internet/digital safety
  • Equality and diversity
  • Administration and safe storage of medication
  • Training, support and development standards for foster carers (TSD).

  • Transitions from Foster Care to Adoption
  • Therapeutic Parenting
  • Coping Between Sessions
  • Foster Carer Peer Mentoring
